Credit crunch businesses 'remain positive' over recruitment

Date: 19th May 2008

Those companies that have been affected by the ongoing crunch on credit remain positive in relation to graduate recruitment, it has been claimed.

According to reports, Elspeth Farrar, the communications director of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), said that in relation to graduates, companies are less willing to disassociate themselves from the market for new recruits, when this market downturn is placed in comparison with the last.

"What we are seeing is that a lot of companies who are being affected by the economy are continuing to be quite positive about the recruitment of graduates," said Ms Farrar.

"This time round it appears that companies are being far more cautious about backing out of the recruitment market in terms of graduates."

Moreover, the organisation believes that, within certain sectors, there is a significant degree of competition between companies for recent university graduates.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
