Complex planning system 'poses real problems' for small businesses

Date: 7th July 2010

Minister welcomes new planning system proposalsSmall businesses operating in the UK could be among those to benefit from the publication of new proposals to simplify the "complex" planning system.

The Penfold Review was published earlier this week and set out a series of recommendations for altering the system, which currently "poses real problems" for some businesses.

Among the proposals are improving access to "clear, accurate and up-to-date information" and improved co-ordination and governance around decision making.

Minister for business Mark Prisk commented: "Businesses involved in construction and development should not have to deal with a regime made more complicated through needless red tape and procedure.

"We need innovative solutions that simplify how government can deliver real benefits for business, saving time and money and encouraging growth."

The government hopes the recommendations will lead to greater transparency about how decisions are made and also lead to the saving of time and money for businesses and investors.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
