Cable announces plans to simplify recruitment sector

Date: 25th November 2011

Business Secretary is keen to simplify recruitment regulationsSmall businesses relying on agency staff could be among those encouraged by the recent comments of Vince Cable.

The Business Secretary has revealed that the coalition has plans to simplify the UK's recruitment sector.

Delivering a speech to the Engineering Employer's Federation, Dr Cable said the plans will "simplify and streamline" the recruitment sector, "smoothing" the path to work.

The secretary added that it is vital that the UK can meet the fluctuating demand for skills.

"Around two million people find work through the recruitment sector - but the rules that hiring businesses must comply with are hugely complex," he commented.

"We are going to consult next year with a view to scrapping unnecessary rules and making the remaining ones more comprehensible to business, so they can use agency workers as flexibly as possible."

Meanwhile, a report recently published by Simply Business has revealed that 62 per cent of small businesses expect revenue to increase in 2012.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
