CRC simplification 'will benefit businesses'

Date: 6th July 2011

CRC simplification 'will reduce red tape'Small businesses operating in the UK could be among those interested in the recent comments of one industry expert regarding the carbon reduction commitment (CRC).

The Cumbria Green Business Forum has claimed that a simplification of CRC rules will benefit companies around the country.

It comes after the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced last week that it will be simplifying the CRC.

John Barwise, chair of the Forum, commented: "The government has at least listened to the business community this time and made CRC easier to understand and implement.

"The proposed fixed price allowance should be less complicated for smaller companies, but we regret that this government insists on keeping the revenue raised through this carbon tax instead of using it to incentivise businesses to further improve energy efficiency."

The expert added that less red tape surrounding the CRC means compliance will be an easier task for many firms.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
