Businesses warned to fact-check candidate data

Date: 18th June 2008

Companies should ensure that the information presented on candidate CVs is accurate, it has been claimed.

According to Anne Fairweather, the head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), employers should confirm the accuracy of CV details before taking on a new employee.

"It's hard enough to pick the right candidate for a job as it is, so you would certainly expect them to be telling the truth in the process," said Ms Fairweather.

"You do need to check the facts that are on a CV - such as asking for certificates of examinations that have been taken or checking with colleges."

It was also noted that the recruitment process can be made easier through the participation of a high-quality recruitment company.

In related news, the Risk Advisory Group has released data showing that most CVs contain information that is not wholly correct.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
