Businesses offered £2m in green grants

Date: 29th May 2009

A major grant is being offered to small firms with environmental credentialsSmall businesses in one UK region have been offered up to £2 million in environmental grants.

The North-west Regional Development Agency's (NWDA) Carbon Challenge Fund will hand out lump sums of between £100,000 and £500,000 to those firms which express a commitment to sustainability.

Entry is available to all organisations in the region, from business start-ups to limited companies, with the deadline for applications on August 3rd.

Chief executive of the NWDA Steven Broomhead commented: "As a powerhouse of innovation, the region has a sound knowledge base that will ensure businesses … are able to demonstrate leadership in dealing with climate change whilst improving efficiency."

He added that the funding will allow more companies to integrate "important technologies" and adopt low carbon products and services.

Earlier this month, the Sunday Times' latest Green List revealed that about three-quarters of all employees are interested in workplace environmental issues.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
