Business owners 'should improve their website content'

Date: 11th March 2008

Small business owners should provide a variety of information on their websites, instead of focussing solely on product details, according to national advice service Technology Means Business (TMB).

TMB suggests that companies with a website should provide snippets of information in order to hold customers' attention.

"Consider the fact that a potential customer is new to your marketplace and wants to understand more about the options that are out there to solve his or her particular problem," Dr Adam Le Gresley, head of operations at TMB comments.

He added that providing information to capture the imagination of customers may lead to higher sales and site enquiries.

Last year the BBC reported that many of the UK's small businesses have not yet established websites.

Research by the Federation of Small Businesses revealed that around 50 per cent of small businesses have some form of web presence.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
