BT highlights benefits of flexible working

Communications firm BT has highlighted the benefits of flexible working initiatives, it has emerged.

According to Caroline Waters, the director of employment policy at BT, businesses should shift towards supporting flexible working arrangements as not doing so clogs up time that could be utilised for the good of an organisation.

Ms Waters also noted that not supporting flexible working programmes impacts upon the environment.

"The only reason most managers want people close is because they think it gives them control," said Ms Waters.

"Flexibility and being hot on the green agenda allows you to reach out and get the best people who all have different perspectives."

Ms Waters made her comments at a recent summit for Work Wise UK, where she also noted that, in the future, employees will be required to deal with information at "an incredible rate".
