Are freelance workers happier?

Date: 18th January 2011

Report reveals happiness of freelance communityFreelance workers are happier than their permanently-employed counterparts, according to a new report.

Recent research from recruitment firm people4Business has shown that 20 per cent of freelancers are "blissfully happy", Enterprise and Freelance fair reported.

Freelancers could be encouraged to let a specialist tax accountancy service handle their financial affairs in order to relieve their stress further and prolong their happiness.

According to the study, 86 per cent of workers who have switched to a freelance role now believe their overall mood and business outlook has improved.

The survey, which questioned 26,000 contractors, also showed that 77.5 per cent of the respondents feel their business will improve in 2011.

Duncan Taylor, managing director of people4Business, explained that despite a lack of optimism in the public sector, freelance workers are set to be the driving force behind economic growth in the UK.

He added that the survey's findings "indicate that temporary and freelance staff will be at the forefront of economic growth and tentative steps toward UK business recovery will fuel the flexible job market".
