Adam Hart-Davis joins small business campaign

Date: 8th May 2008

The Federation for Small Businesses (FSB) has announced that scientist and TV historian Adam Hart-Davis has joined its campaign to protect the livelihoods of small businesses across the UK.

The Keep Trade Local campaign is aimed at limiting the spread of large supermarket chains which the organisation feels are squeezing the small retailer out of business.

It aims to raise awareness of the plight of small business operators and to safeguard their future.

John Wright, FSB National chairman, said: "The average person now travels 893 miles a year to shop for food. Our message is that shopping in local independent shops is good for the community, good for the environment and good for you."

The FSB also recently published its Small Business Manifesto, in which it recommended a number of ways in which local authorities could improve life for small business owners.
