A London postcode offers small firms 'a certain gravitas'

Individuals across the UK could be tempted to set up a business in London following the recent comments of one industry commentator.

According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), operating from the capital, or even having a London postcode on company correspondence, affords businesses "a certain gravitas".

Matthew Jaffa, the FSB's London senior development manager, described the city as the "heart of England", saying there is not better business location in the UK.

"[London] gives you many opportunities that you probably wouldn't have in other parts of the country," he explained.

"Say you've got a London postcode on your business card, it does have a lot of weight and lot of people we speak to tell us that they either want, first to have a PO BOX number or something that gives them that postcode status in London and they have that on their business card because it carries that weight."

Furthermore, with the 2012 Olympics getting ever closer, the expert said now is the time to make the most of London's opportunities.
