HMRC unveils PAYE changes information

Date: 9th September 2008

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has authorised the Chartered Institute of Taxation (Ciot) to publish details about filing PAYE in-year forms online and some upgrades to HMRC's online tax returns.

According to Ciot, the full details of the changes will be made available to accountants and other taxation professionals on September 17th.

In the available PAYE agent mailing, HMRC explained that accountants working for businesses with more than 50 employees must submit in-year data (forms P45, P46 and some pension information) online from April 6th, 2009.

A statement from Ciot added: "HMRC also advise that there will be a period at the end of October … when you will not be able to send the in-year forms online via the PAYE Service."

As a result, HMRC will "provide advice" about what accountants need to do before any upgrades and what changes will be seen after it is completed.

"In addition, HMRC advise that they will no longer provide bulk tax code changes on paper lists after September 2008 and that they will cease to provide bulk coding notifications by magnetic media from April 2009," Ciot explained.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
