Female-led small firm outstrip men for ambition

Date: 20th November 2008

Female entrepreneurs are forecasting a £12 billion growth in turnover in the next five years, according to new research.

An investigation by Everywoman - a group which provides advice for women in business - found that 88 per cent of female business managers are expecting their firm to grow, in contrast to 74 per cent of men.

Despite this, the study also yielded that the majority of women have difficultly implementing financial support services - such as accountants - compared to male-led businesses.

Karen Gill, director of Everywoman, said: "The fact that female-owned businesses are reporting a greater desire for growth is testament to the progress we have made as a sector in such a short space of time.

"It is imperative these business owners have access to the advice and information necessary to maximise their business skills and achieve growth."

Another pressing matter for business start-ups is chancellor Alistair Darling's pre-budget speech, which will be made to parliament on November 24th.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
